Hints, remarks, bugreports... are very welcome!
Important hints...
...about compiling:
The program works with threads. Therefore you need thread-safe
libraries. That seems to be a big problem with the X11-library.
Ali found in the internet
XFree86-3.3-libs.README (Which descibes,
how to generate thread-safe X-libraries) and
here is the
directory with this README and precompiled X-libs (only dynamically).
...about starting:
You should be root for accessing the devices. The
program reads directly from the devices independent from filesystems.
There could be bugs, so it's possible that a device is
damaged. There's no warranty for nothing! The static
linked version runs even at non-X-hosts, you only need a xserver for showing
the window :-)
If media devices are not recognized, it possibly helps inserting a medium.
If you use modules try accessing the non-recognized devices before starting
the program or loading the modules by hand.
...about the purpose:
We wanted to create a graphic LINUX-tool similar to the Adaptec-Bench for
windows but not restricted to Adaptec-managed devices. We don't want to make a
better bonnie, because bonnie calculates the speed of a
filesystem after a wile. We want to see immediately the speed of a device an
the interaction of the devices.
